Harnessing the Power of Photosynthesis – Power-Plant! (just yet another random deck idea…)

Since I am always curious about the lesser known and more obscure Monster Types and I recently discovered some cards that did stuff with Plant Type Monsters, I started to reasearch a bit on Plant Monsters and the support cards available for that particular Monster Type. What totally surprised and amazed me were two cards in particular, which were proper Mirror Forces and Solemn Judgments respectively if used in a proper deck – that would be a Plant Deck. The cards I am talking about, and their mere existence tempted me enough to come up with a Plant-themed deck including them, are…

Pollinosis …

Which is on-par or even superior to Solemn Judgment in a deck full of Plant-Type monsters and…

Wall of Thorns…

…which is no less than a proper Mirror Force perfect for any Plant deck.

So I was thrilled that such cards actually existed, especially because, as I have mentioned before, we here use our own, home-use list of limited cards (there are no banned cards) and Solemn Judgment and Mirror Force are on that list. Pollinosis and Wall of Thorns however are not. The prospect of having a deck with something equal to 3 Solemn Judgments and 3 Mirror Forces intrigued me and so I started to research what else Plants had to offer. And I came across some really unique and powerful cards, Monsters and supporting Spells&Traps besides the above two. So after some exploration and research I have come up with a very first, very rough draft of a card list for a Plant Deck, which I will present you with below and which I simply called

Power-Plant:

Monsters…19

3 x Lonefire Blossom

3 x Lord Poison

3 x Gigantic Cephalotus

2 x Revival Rose

2 x Rose Witch

3 x Gigaplant

3 x Tytannial, Princess of Camellias

Spells…11

2 x Solidarity

2 x Miracle Fertilizer

2 x The World Tree

1 x Graceful Charity

1 x Card Destruction

1 x Foolish Burial

1 x Monster Reborn

1 x Dark Hole

Traps…10

3 x Pollinosis

3 x Wall of Thorns

2 x Plant Food Chain

1 x Call of the Haunted

1 x Ultimate Offering

Besides featuring 3 copies of each “Plant Mirror Force” and “Plant Solemn Judgement” as seen above, this deck features two major Monsters with great effects and considerable ATK-Power as well as lots and lots of effects that let you recover quickly from boardsweepers or opponents destroying your Monsters. There are two major “big guys” which are supposed to win you the game.

For once there is Gigaplant:

A one-Tribute Gemini Monster that lets you Special Summon any Plant-Type (or Insect-Type) Monster from your hand or Graveyard each turn once Gemini-Summoned. Not bad. Not bad at all. Its 2400 ATK are nothing to sneeze at either. There are plenty of ways to Special Summon this one without having to pay any Tributes, such as through discarding it via Graceful Charity or Card Destruction or sending it to the Graveyard directly through Foolish Burial. There are more synergies with this card and an awesome way of Special Summoning it RIGHT FROM YOUR DECK. But before we come to that, I’d like to show you the second big plant in this deck:

Tytannial, Princess of Camellias

Tytannial features a respectable 2800 base ATK and has an absolutely amazing effect in a Plant-only deck. Just Tribute one face-up Plant-Type Monster to negate the activation of any card or effect and destroy the card. This one counters pretty much everything. And it can be Special Summoned either quite straightforward by dropping it in the Graveyard via Graceful Charity, Card Destruction or Foolish Burial, then Reanimating it with Monster Reborn, Call of the Haunted or the later-to-be-discussed Miracle Fertilizer OR Special Summoned easy-cheesy from hand or Graveyard through a fully activated Gigaplant. The one card that makes and breaks the deck is this amazing little flower:

Lonefire Blossom:

Just check this out: This little vegetable lets you Special Summojn ANY one Plant Type Monster from your deck just by tributing a Plant-Type Monster, for example itself. Just imagine the havoc that can be wreaked by combining Lonefire Blossom’s effect with Gigaplant or Tytannial! As I realized through the invaluably useful Yu Gi Oh Wikia, a Deck containing Gigaplant, Tytannial, Lonefire Blossom and Ultimate Offering (a card that is sadly on my limited list! :P) can pull off an One-Turn-Kill quite easily. I quote:

“Have “Ultimate Offering” face up on the field and summon “Gigaplant”, then Gemini Summon “Gigaplant”, revive “Lonefire”, summon another “Gigaplant”, and repeat until you’ve summoned your third “Gigaplant” from your deck. Then summon “Lonefire” again by the last effect of “Gigaplant”, then summon “Tytannial, Princess of Camellias” and have all four monsters attack directly for a OTK.

Well while I realize this won’t happen nearly as often as you might wish, it is still nice to have a deck with the possibility of performing such an impressive feat! 😀

As for the rest of the Monsters in the  deck, which are all Plant-Type so I can use Solidarity to give all Monsters a massive 800 ATK Boost (making Tytannial an impressive 3600 for example), are pretty useful and versatile as well: Lord Poison lets you reanimate ANY Plant-Type Monster from your Graveyard when destroyed. Gigantic Cephalotus’ base ATK is not too bad at 1850 and it grows and grows in ATK-power every time a Plant is put into your Graveyard (and that is bound to happen a lot!). Yet another card that returns from Graveyard to field is Revival Rose, which you can Special Summon from your Graveyard when a Level 5 or higher Plant-Type Monster goes to your Graveyard and Rose Witch serves as 2 Tributes which is a good alternative of bringing Tytannial into play from your hand early on.

Notable Spells&Traps that support a Plant-themed deck are Miracle Fertilizer, The World Tree and Plant Food Chain. Miracle Fertilizer lets you, once per turn, reanimate any Plant from your Graveyard. The World Tree gets Counters everytime a Plant dies and has some outstanding effects depending on the number of Counters you remove (for example destroying any one card on the field by removing two and reanimating any Plant from your Graveyard by removing 3 counters). Plant Food Chain not only gives a Plant a 500 ATK Boost but also reanimates another Plant when destroyed.

It boggles my mind how much “reanimation” this Plant deck has going on overall – it would even put a proper Zombie deck to shame as it appears! 😀

Overall, this deck seems to have huge potential of swarming the field quickly with powerful, Special Summoned Monsters, either from hand, Graveyard or even from the deck, which at the same time means considerable “comeback potential” after opponent boardsweepers or devastating attacks killing off many of your Monsters through tons of ways to reanimate Monsters. And there is even the potential of a devastating OTK as described above. Combined with the Plant-themed “Tripple Mirror Forces” and “Tripple Solemn Judgments”, this deck, in theory and upon cursory inspection sounds very promising to me. How it fares against some of my more powerful decks has to be seen and will be seen as I am going to order the cards needed to assemble it sooner or later. For now it is just a first rough draft, an idea, on which I am pondering and which I will build eventually because the aforementioned potential on so many levels is highly intriguing to me.

At this point, any feedback and input would be useful and more than welcome. It may well be possible that I missed some key cards for a Plant-Deck so feel free to post your ideas and suggestions. They would be highly appreciated!

Thank you for reading and…

Game on!

Yours,

Andi
